Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, a community organisation based in Bristol, are a resident-led organisation that exists to support residents to achieve positive change for themselves and their community. The design approach developed alongside residents has sought to make the project ecologically friendly, for wildlife and residents.

Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust are run by local volunteers and a small team of dedicated staff who work for the benefit of the people of Lockleaze. Working in partnership with LNT and Bristol City Council we have been assisting them to design 19 Community Led Homes on land provided by the Council and split across two parcels of land.

The site was formerly occupied by 4 semi-detached houses, which have been demolished due to structural failures with the pre-cast concrete units used to build them in the 1950s.

The design approach developed alongside residents has sought to make the project ecologically friendly, for wildlife and residents. The buildings and landscape incorporate a range of features to encourage insects, birds, bats and foxes to live alongside the residents, in low energy apartments which surround sunny, shared courtyard gardens. The landscape spaces use level changes, planting and sustainable drainage features to create a range of semi-private and private spaces for residents, which aim to encourage neighbours to form a close community network.

The project is due to commence on site in 2022, and we are currently working with the client group and consultant team to develop the technical design of the project for tender. We have been collaborating with Hydrock (Sustainability and Energy), Robert Bray Associates (landscape design and SUDs), TPA (Highways and Transport), Alar Ecology and Randall Simmonds (Cost Consultants).
