the cabins

Barefoot Cabins are a modular construction system that brings together efficiency and low-impact design.

Our architect-designed cabin range is formed around three core shapes - kuba, penta, and hexa - each offering a distinct spatial quality and appearance, while sharing the same principles of careful detailing, adaptability, and sustainability.

Through an architect-led process, each shape can be adjusted in size, layout, and specification to respond to your site and how you plan to use the space - without the need for a fully bespoke design from scratch. Accessible, considered, and kind to the planet from the ground up.

KUBA

“Essential space, beautifully simple.”

The kuba is about clarity and calm. With a small footprint and carefully considered proportions, it's a high-quality space in a simple form. Every detail is intentional, allowing the space to feel comfortable, efficient, and quietly confident.

Sizes available from an 8m2 micro-office or meditation room, to a 15m2 or 25m2 space for guests or off-grid retreat, the kuba delivers exactly what’s needed - nothing more, nothing less.

The kuba can meet Permitted Development rules, so you may not need planning permission.*

penta

“More character. More comfort. Surprisingly spacious.”

The penta's five-sided form creates interiors that feel surprisingly generous and inviting. The angled geometry retains a small footprint — keeping foundation costs down — while opening up the interior, giving more space at arm and head height, and making it feel extra spacious.

From a 20m² space-pod for small retreats, to a 35m² compact family cottage, or a 50m² micro-house for comfortable extended breaks, the hexa offers a range of really exciting spaces.

The penta can still meet Permitted Development rules.*

hexa

“Where space, craft, and clever design come together.”

The hexa is designed for those who want even more space and aren't afraid to reach upwards. Its sculpted two-storey form still makes the most of a compact footprint, while opening up options for kids' sleeping spaces, vaulted ceilings, high-level balconies, or just amazing sky views.

Carefully detailed and highly adaptable, the hexa is equally at home in a large garden, a field, woodland, or a more remote setting — a cabin suited to longer stays and a greater sense of immersion in nature.

From a 20m² space-pod for a couples retreat, to a 35m² compact family cottage, or a 50m² micro-house for comfortable extended living — the hexa offers a range of genuinely exciting spaces.

Due to its size the hexa requires planning permission — we can help with that.*

Pricing

Shell prices for the kuba start from £18,000. Full costs depend on size, specification, build route, and site conditions — and we provide a clear, itemised quote before anything is agreed.

Most projects begin with an Initial Design Consultation, which allows us to understand your site, confirm the right cabin shape and size, and establish whether a standard adapted design or a fully bespoke approach is the best fit. Book your consultation here.

faq’s

Do your cabins need planning permission? Most cabins can be built under Permitted Development rights in a garden, but this depends on site-specific factors. We can advise you at an early stage and support any applications needed.

Are your cabins suitable for off-grid use? Yes. Our cabins can be designed for off-grid living using solar power, composting toilets, and low-energy systems — all in keeping with our commitment to low-impact construction. We can also connect to mains supply where available.

How much does a cabin cost? Shell prices for the kuba start from £18,000. Full costs depend on size, specification, build route, and site conditions. Downloadable self-build plan packages start from £250. We provide a clear, itemised quote following your initial design consultation.

How long does it take to build? Most cabins take between 8 and 16 weeks to manufacture in our off-site workshop — a process that improves build quality and reduces weather delays. On-site installation can take as little as 2 days, designed to minimise disruption and maximise quality.

Can I customise the design? Yes. All of our cabin designs can be adapted in size, layout, and materials to suit your site and how you plan to use the space — without the need for a fully bespoke design from scratch. This process starts with an Initial Design Consultation.

What foundations do I need? It depends on your ground conditions and cabin size. Options range from simple pad footings to ground screws or a concrete raft. We'll advise what's right for your site and can include foundation specification in your project package.
