backland housing

We were approached by our clients to design new housing on land to the rear of their property in a suburb of Bristol.

The proposed scheme makes efficient use of an under-utilised backland site by providing much needed homes in a location with good transport links and local amenities. The intention is to provide high quality dwellings, with good standards of thermal insulation, natural light, ventilation as well as outlook and privacy - whilst retaining good amenity and outlook for the surrounding area, and ecological benefits to the site.

The concept design incorporates low eaves and wrap-around roofs to minimise height and impact on neighbours, whilst pop-up dormers create volume within key living spaces.

The scheme was submitted for planning in 2020.
